writer, photographer, journalist.  resident of wellington, new zealand (for now).  partner of a gorgeous brazilian man (referred to in these pages as “the rockstar”).  mother of the cutest little girl in existence.

i’m from scotland, via new zealand, brazil and london.  as a result, i love porridge laced with doce de leite and i can swear fluently in english, portuguese and glaswegian.  in new zealand, everyone thinks i’m english;  in london, everyone thinks i’m an alien.

when conversations in the pub turn to which actor would play us in the films of our lives, my friends have variously suggested i’d be played by julia roberts, reese witherspoon, kate winslet and “that guy from neighbours who was in priscilla queen of the desert”.

some things i like:  beautiful coats, being a bleeding heart liberal, the click of a shutter, writing with fountain pens, digging through vintage stores, hot coffee on chilly mornings, culinary alchemy, brazilian punk and my kid’s tiny socks.

some other places you can find me include flickr and twitter, of course.  também tenho orkut, é claro.

(oh, and what does ninetwelvetwentyfive mean?  it’s the simplest kind of code there is.  c’mooon, you can figure it out.)

  2. Dear Jessica,

I just finished reading your book (50 Facts that Should Change the World). I find it very interesting.

Please have a look at the application I just released on data: http://knoema.com/

I would like to build an application within Knoema to highlight all the Facts you identified in your book with visual representation of all stats. That way, readers can see the trends for all statistics you are highlighting.

Do I get your approval for this? I think it would be very useful and educational.

    Please let me know.
